In the warmth of the afternoon, on January 27th, we learned that our precious baby boy’s heart had stopped beating. This week has been a whirlwind of emotion as we are grieving the loss of our son.
God not only sympathizes with us when we suffer, but He also empathizes with us as well. His son died on the cross for our sins. So His love for us has an incredible way of turning things around on our behalf. Where there is grief and loss, God brings soothing and relief. Where there is pain and suffering, He brings peace and hope. Only He can turn our mourning into dancing and clothe us with gladness instead of despair during our darkest hours.
Despite the hard that we are walking through there has been so much love and support. My Dad, our church family and friends have rallied around us from the very first moment. In a moment’s notice prayers were being said and our kids were taken care of day and night so that Travis was able to stay by my side.
From the paramedics to the nurses, and even one of my favorite doctors checking on me by chance, everyone was kind and compassionate. The mortuary staff has bent over backwards to make sure our son is cared for properly. Though we grieve what we have lost, we are thankful for our faith and those surrounding us.
Though we had only shared with family and very few friends, we feel led to share with everyone now. Our son, Amos Henry, was here. Though his life was short, he mattered. He will always be our loved and cherished son. It’s the greatest comfort to know that the very first time he opened his eyes, he saw the face of Jesus.
Amos in Hebrew means Carried. Strong. Brave. I carried our precious Amos until Jesus carried him. Now Jesus has carried us, and will continue to carry us, through the pain of losing him. His loss will make us stronger and braver.
Henry is my mom’s maiden name and I’m comforted to know that she’s probably already found the absolute best rocking chair in heaven to rock her precious grandson until I can one day do so myself.
What wonderful peace and hope we feel to know we’ll see our Amos Henry again someday.
Revelation 21:4 “He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.”
